Fire Season

Once again we awoke to a blood red sky and the smell of burning wood. (We're having a repeat of October 2003.) We went to sleep last night with two fires burning in the county and awoke in the morning with eight burning. I sent the kids to school in the morning, but by 11:00 a.m. I got a call to pick up Brian and Kelly. At 1:00 p.m. I heard it announced on the TV that I needed to pick up Erin, and that school is definitely cancelled for tomorrow as well. We are not directly threatened by the fires, but the air quality is so terrible that we have to stay indoors. The fire near us is still about 5 to 8 miles east of us, but a steady wind is blowing it west. It is only about 5 percent contained, but it would have to cross a reservoir and a lot of houses to get to us. With David's work being cancelled tomorrow as well, it's looks like we will be having a family day at home!

I found this interactive map of the Harris Fire. It's from KPBS. Looks like it is starting to hit East Chula Vista. Here's another one from SD Union Tribune.
