Cancun

In December we attended David's family reunion at Taninah --"A Private Jungle Retreat"-- about an hour away from Cancun, Mexico. Although this was not my top choice of places to go two days after Christmas, it ended up being a pretty relaxing vacation. Taninah is basically a small private resort off the beaten track in the jungle. We were the only occupants, and it was a great way to spend time together as an extended family.

One of the houses

The patio where we ate our fabulous mealsBlake on the zip line --one of the kids' (and adults') favorite activities
Stansels vs. Taninah Staff -- guess who won Another one of the cabanas

The kids enjoying the hot tub

The cenote at Taninah--you can see the bottom of the water slide on the left
The beach at Tulum--just a staircase away from the ruins
Katie & Kelly digging in the beautiful white sand Erin loved the warm Carribean water

Here we are in front of Tulum's Mayan temple
Tulum's temple--home of the Mayan high priestsRuins on the cliffs above the ocean
Playa del Carmen--can you tell it's the busy season?
Here's a sampling of some of the lovely creatures we experienced during our trip to Mexico. (And I don't even have a photo of the snake Jean & Chad found in their room!) The most fascinating has to be the tarantula wasp--we thought it was being killed by the tarantula until we were informed that it was actually doing the killing. There were also assorted cats, a dog, a cave of bats, and tons of mosquitoes--as well as a strange and rarely seen white mountain lion?

Wow, I was totally excited about your beautiful paradise of a vacation spot until you got to the part about all the creepy crawlies. YUCK!!!! My kids would love it. I am so happy that you had a good time Kim.

I love how LaVerne refused to touch her book after we took pictures of the creepy crawly thing on it. I'm so glad you posted the pictures-good memories.

I think we've all posted pictures, which is great. It's fun to see different views from different people.
