David's only wish for his birthday was to take his canoe out on the water. He and his father built a canoe from a kit when he was a teenager, and he has only taken it out once (about 7 years ago)since we moved back to California. Of course we picked a day when the wind was blowing hard, and the water was very choppy, but after we hauled it all the way to
Otay Reservoir, we didn't want to take it home without using it.
This photo shows the fire-charred hills where last years fire came down the mountains towards us. You can also see how choppy the water was on Saturday.
David took turns with each of the kids. I preferred to stay on shore taking pictures. (I had trouble forgetting the dunking I got in San Pedro Harbor when we were dating!)

I remember going with you guys the first time you took the fullboat out. By the way, nice hat David.
How fun is that...I think it should be a family ritual, ,minus any dunking! Happy Birthday David.
Reminds me of when we went canoeing on the Colorado River as young women. Kim did you go on that trip? I know Heather did. Maybe you boycotted that one.
Looks like lots of fun. Hope David's birthday was a happy one.
I did boycott the rafting trips in YW. Not my thing!
